He grew up in Ellenwood, Georgia, alongside his older brother, Hakim Lopez. Their mother, Daphne, had never seen either of her sons fight in person until June 2022. Raised in Ellenwood, Georgia, Lopez developed a passion for boxing early in life. He is a two-time U.S. amateur boxing champion with over 200 amateur bouts, securing before turning professional.
Lopez began his professional career on August 27, 2021, defeating Wallace Nass Silva by first-round technical knockout in Plant City, Florida. In his third bout, Lopez secured a second-round technical knockout against Alex Theran on February 25, 2022, in Plant City. He followed up with a fourth-round technical knockout over Anthony Stewart on March 25, 2022. Later that year, on June 24, 2022, Lopez achieved a third-round technical knockout against Jeysson Monroy in Kissimmee, Florida. He continued his winning streak with a unanimous decision over Cristian Fabian Rios on February 22, 2023, in Plant City.
Tragically, Lopez’s father, Tito Lopez, passed away on December 12, 2020, at the age of 54. Tito was a significant who introduced him to boxing at the age of six. Tito believed in Najee’s potential to excel and attract fans to the Georgia boxing scene.
Technical Overview
Lopez is a tall, imposing boxer whose right hand is like an arrow launched from the high ground—precise, powerful, and devastatingly accurate. His ability to aim and penetrate an opponent’s defense with this weapon is remarkable, often setting the tone for the fight. While Lopez occasionally drops his head to throw heavy shots, this movement is a deliberate strategy rather than a flaw. The result is often a punch so thunderous it knocks his opponents off their feet. He doesn’t stop there; his follow-up combinations.
Lopez’s high guard is another defining trait of his style. It’s not just a defensive tool but an art form in itself. When he uses it, he resembles a classical flamenco dancer, gracefully deflecting incoming shots while staying light on his feet. This guard allows him to stay poised and ready to counter, turning defense into offense with minimal effort. Lopez also excels at utilizing his range, a key advantage given his height. His long limbs and sharp sense of distance allow him to dictate the pace and keep his opponents at bay. Yet, despite his reach, he never seems to overextend or let his extremities tangle up.
