Yahya McClain’s Yah Filmworks & Promotions brings The South Got Something 2 Say Bout Boxing IV to Champion Boxing Gym in Jonesboro, Georgia, on Saturday, August 23. The show—sanctioned by the Georgia Athletic & Entertainment Commission—now lists unbeaten middleweight prospect Augusto Leal Salazar (2-0, 1 KO) against seasoned journeyman Larry Smith (13-59-2, 9 KOs) as a six-round main event, marking Salazar’s first scheduled bout beyond four rounds. Smith, a veteran of seventy-plus fights, offers an early litmus test for the 20-year-old Texan.
Originally billed atop the poster, the 4-round junior middleweight rematch between undefeated Amir “Trust” Worthy and Tyrone Albert Adams remains a key attraction on the night. In a Special Featured—and last—bout of the evening, Hollywood stuntman and actor Ryan “The Riot” Robertson makes his professional debut versus Julius Whitsett (0-2). Robertson’s credits include work on Black Panther, Avengers, Black Adam, Suicide Squad, and more.
The supporting cast is busy across the weights. Bantamweight hopeful Aaron Simmons (1-0, 1 KO) meets Isaiah Martin (0-5) over four. At welterweight, first-timer Jerrell Mayweather faces Christopher Thomas (0-5), while unbeaten Christian Haddock (3-0, 2 KOs) takes on the battle-hardened Thomas Allen (4-40-1, 4 KOs) in another four-rounder.
Further bouts include Bryan Goldsby Jr. vs. Michael Lemelle (4 rounds, light heavyweight), Anthony Reeves vs. Rueben Johnson (4 rounds, super middleweight), Hernando Walthall vs. TBA, and Joshua Moreno vs. TBA. It’s the fourth installment of the series, and with a hometown venue, a new headliner, a rivalry rematch, and a screen-tested debut, Jonesboro’s Saturday slate has something to say indeed.
