Lightweight contender Abdullah Mason is set to face Augustin Quintana on August 17th at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City. While it was previously announced that Mason would fight on this date, the confirmation of Quintana as his opponent has now been made. This matchup appears to be a lateral move for Mason from his last opponent, Luis Lebron, and not the high-profile fight that fans were hoping for.

Mason and Quintana will be part of the undercard for the super middleweight clash between Christian Mbilli and Sergiy Derevyanchenko. The exact placement of Mason’s fight on the card is unclear, but he arguably deserves a co-feature spot given his impressive performances at lightweight.

Not much is known about Augustin Quintana, a 27-year-old fighter from Argentina, who has largely flown under the radar during his seven-year professional career. Mason's dominant performance against Lebron, however, has fans eager to see him face tougher competition. There are calls for Top Rank to match Mason against higher-profile opponents to accelerate his path to a world title.

Mason appears ready for better opposition than Quintana. There are suggestions that a matchup with Keyshawn Davis, another rising lightweight, could be beneficial for Mason. A fight against Davis would not only provide a significant challenge but also help Mason prove his readiness for a world title shot. With his current trajectory, Mason looks capable of competing with top champions like Shakur Stevenson and Denys Berinchyk, with Gervonta "Tank" Davis potentially being his toughest challenge.
