Biography

Padraig “The Hammer” McCrory, born on June 20, 1988, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, is a professional boxer competing in the super middleweight division. Standing at 6’1” with a reach of 76 inches. In November 2024, McCrory returned to the ring in Belfast, topping a Conlan Boxing bill at the SSE Arena. He faced hard-hitting Colombian Leonard Carrillo, whose 16 of 17 wins had come by stoppage. McCrory secured a unanimous decision victory over 10 rounds. This bout marked McCrory’s first fight since suffering a defeat to Edgar Berlanga earlier in 2024.

Technical Overview

McCrory’s movement is calculated and precise, often avoiding over-exuberant motions that could lead to mistakes. He excels at using a basic yet effective arsenal of combinations, favoring clean, short punches that come from a solid, controlled stance. His ability to switch his weight effortlessly between both feet allows him to pivot, cut off angles, and hold ground in the center of the ring, a crucial aspect of his strategy to dominate the pace of the fight.

McCrory’s knockout shots, particularly his powerful right hand, have gained attention. He’s excellent at “reloading” on his front foot, quickly setting up and firing off with maximum efficiency without losing his balance or leaning too far into the shot. His ability to reset and keep his composure after each exchange ensures that his shots are always delivered with maximum power and control. In combination with this, his jab is a vital tool, used not only to maintain range but also as a deceptive weapon to distract opponents, setting up his heavier punches.

His movement is sharp but not overly flashy. McCrory is a fighter who doesn’t telegraph his shots, keeping his movements economical and his head on a constant swivel to avoid incoming punches. He doesn’t waste energy, moving at the precise moment needed to evade or redirect attacks. His focus is on controlling the ring and walking his opponents down, keeping them on the defensive with simple but effective punches while avoiding excessive movement or unnecessary risks.
